Tracing the Journey
from Spanish Pueblo
to Modern Municipality

In 1901, the civil government of Hindang was formally instituted, however, in the 18th century the municipality had been a pueblo under the Spanish regime. Hindang became a parish and a municipality in September 17, 1861 under the proclamation from Obispado de Cebu, with Baldomero Rubi Ybañez as the first parish priest. Kapitan Pael (Rafael Ballener) was the Kapitan or the administrator during that time. Hindang was ruled by a series of Kapitanes. Kapitan Poni and Kapitan Taran were the last two leaders who served during the Filipino-Spanish revolution from 1896-1898.
